“When the Machine Writes… Who Tells the Story?” Opens the Women’s Committee Events at the “Writers Association”

The Women’s Committee at the Jordanian Writers Association opened its first cultural events last Thursday evening with a question that transcends the boundaries of technology to the essence of humanity: “When the machine writes… who tells the story?”, in a seminar featuring Dr. Hazar Al-Hammoud.

During the meeting, Dr. Al-Hammoud presented insights and knowledge regarding the rapid transformations brought about by artificial intelligence in the fields of writing and knowledge, and the new questions this imposes regarding the future of creativity, the limits of the machine’s role, and human responsibility in using it.

The seminar, moderated by the Women’s Committee rapporteur, poet Ghadir Haddadin, did not merely examine the ability of artificial intelligence to produce texts, but rather attempted to approach the deeper shift that technology has created in the concept of writing, knowledge, and creativity, and in the relationship between the human and the text, and between the owner of the idea and the tool that has become capable of simulating language and producing discourse that often seems close to human writing.

The seminar reflected the extent of the anxiety and curiosity accompanying the current digital transformation, and the importance of not viewing artificial intelligence merely as a technical tool, but as a transformation that affects knowledge, consciousness, and language, and re-raises questions related to human identity, intellectual property, authenticity, responsibility, and the future of creative professions.

The choice of the topic of artificial intelligence gains special importance in light of the transformation that writing itself is witnessing; the machine is no longer content with calculation and processing, but has entered into language, and into the creation of images, text, and information.
