On Sunday, Israeli occupation forces continued to bulldoze agricultural lands west of Al-Hanout farm in the southern countryside of Quneitra, southern Syria, as part of the completion of the so-called "Sofa 53" line, which the Syrian Foreign Ministry condemned, considering it a flagrant violation of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and a blatant breach of international legitimacy resolutions.
The Syrian News Agency "SANA" reported that the bulldozing operations aim to establish an earthen barrier that includes agricultural lands owned by Syrians, noting the presence of vast areas of agricultural land to the west of the barrier, which residents fear will be affected by these works.
Israeli occupation forces had bulldozed about 13 dunams planted with olive trees in the Al-Hanout area, belonging to the village of Saida in the southern Quneitra countryside, on October 18, and prevented residents from accessing the rest of their fields in the area to harvest their olive crop.
Syria condemned the continuation of work on "Sofa 53," considering it a flagrant violation of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and a blatant breach of international legitimacy resolutions, and affirmed its adherence to its full sovereignty over its territories, calling on the international community to assume its responsibilities in upholding the sovereignty of states and the sanctity of their borders.
The Israeli occupation began implementing the so-called "Sofa 53" line in Quneitra within the disengagement zone in mid-2022, before its pace accelerated and the works associated with it expanded after December 8, 2024, in parallel with Israeli incursions in some axes hundreds of meters inside the separation zone.
