Parliament opens its first session chaired by MP Mousa Al-Wahsh

The 20th House of Representatives opened its first session of its third ordinary term on Monday, chaired by MP Mousa Al-Wahsh, following the decision of MP Majhem Al-Saqour, the longest-serving member, to decline chairing the session due to his intention to run for the Speaker of the House position.

Paragraph (A) of Article 3 of the House of Representatives' Internal Regulations stipulates that the first session shall be chaired by the longest-serving member. In the event that more than one member is equal in seniority, the chair shall be held by the member with the most legislative terms; if the tie persists, the oldest member shall preside.

Assisting Al-Wahsh in chairing the session are MPs Rand Al-Khazouz and Hamza Al-Toubasi, as the youngest members present, with their duties ending immediately upon the election of the Speaker of the House.

MP Mousa Al-Wahsh previously served as a member of the 14th and 18th Houses of Representatives, in addition to his current membership in the 20th House.

The House of Representatives is preparing to elect its Permanent Office, which includes the Speaker, the first and second deputy speakers, and the assistants to the speaker, in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution and the Internal Regulations.

Article 69 of the Jordanian Constitution stipulates that the House of Representatives shall elect at the beginning of each ordinary session a speaker for a period of one solar year, and he may be re-elected.
