The General Union of Arab Writers Council approves the formation of a committee to prepare a project for an Arab cultural summit

The President of the Jordanian Writers Association, Dr. Riyad Yassin, returned to Amman after participating in the meetings of the General Union of Arab Writers and Intellectuals Council, which were held in the Libyan city of Benghazi on October 14 and 15, with the participation of representatives from Arab literary unions and associations.

The meetings resulted in a decision to form a committee chaired by the Iraqi critic Ali Al-Fawaz to study the project of holding an Arab cultural summit, define its objectives, and prepare a reference document in preparation for its launch, in a step aimed at establishing a framework for Arab cultural cooperation and coordinating efforts between literary and intellectual institutions.

The attendees affirmed the centrality of the Palestinian cause, support for the steadfastness of the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights, and the rejection of normalization in all its forms. They also announced their solidarity with Arab peoples in the face of threats, and support for their rights to freedom, dignity, and self-determination.

The decisions included tasking the Union's General Secretariat with communicating with Arab unions and inviting them to participate in upcoming meetings and activities, in addition to enhancing coordination, exchanging literary and intellectual publications, and organizing joint cultural events and programs.

These decisions come within the framework of seeking to enhance communication between Arab writers and authors, expanding the areas of joint cultural work, and discussing mechanisms for coordinating literary and intellectual initiatives at the Arab level.
