Jordanian Writers and Intellectuals Union and the Arab Union for Culture Sign a Cultural Cooperation Protocol

The Jordanian Writers and Intellectuals Union and the Arab Union for Culture signed a cultural cooperation protocol today, Thursday, in the conference hall at Mecca Mall, on the sidelines of the 2026 Amman International Book Fair, with the aim of enhancing cultural and literary cooperation and expanding the areas of communication between writers, intellectuals, and thinkers in Jordan and the Arab world.

The signing ceremony was chaired by Ilahm Al-Abadi, a member of the Jordanian Writers and Intellectuals Union, who welcomed the Union's President, poet Aliyan Al-Adwan, Dr. Maysoon Essa Ahmed Al-Sulaim, representative of the Arab Union for Culture in Jordan, and its delegate to the Jordanian Writers and Intellectuals Union, and the commissioner authorized to sign on behalf of the Union's presidency, as well as the writers, intellectuals, and attendees.

Adwan said that cooperation between Arab cultural institutions provides a broader space for joint cultural work, exchanging experiences and ideas, and gives the writer, intellectual, and thinker a wider scope to reach their voice and production, pointing to the importance of enhancing the presence of Jordanian culture in the Arab world, promoting the literary and intellectual achievement, and building real bridges with Arab cultural institutions.

He stressed that the importance of cooperation does not stop at signing protocols, but in what results from them in terms of meetings, programs, projects, and real opportunities for creators, expressing his aspiration that this protocol be the beginning of effective and continuous cooperation that will show its results in the coming phase.

Adwan thanked the Arab Union for Culture and its President Dr. Aisha Al-Khader, and Dr. Maysoon Al-Sulaim, appreciating the efforts that contributed to the signing of the protocol, and looking forward to its activation and turning the areas of cooperation mentioned in it into joint cultural work.

For her part, Al-Sulaim conveyed the greetings of the President of the Arab Union for Culture and its founder, Dr. Aisha Al-Khader, and her appreciation for this step, and what it represents as a new space for Arab cultural cooperation.

She said that the Arab world has a large stock of creators, cultural institutions, intellectual and literary production, while the need lies in finding bridges that allow this production and cultural experiences to move between Arab countries and reach a wider space, confirming that the Arab Union for Culture seeks to enhance communication between creators, cultural institutions, dialogue, openness, and exchange of experiences.

She added that the protocol opens up areas for cooperation in Arab cultural meetings, publishing and translation, studies and research, criticism and literary dialogue, and providing a space for young writers and intellectuals to attend and interact, stressing that these areas represent practical paths through which the value of cooperation and its impact on the ground can be measured.

Al-Sulaim emphasized that the value of cultural agreements is measured by the number of doors they open, the ideas they move, and the opportunities they create for creators, expressing the aspiration of the Arab Union for Culture that the protocol be the beginning of joint cultural work that shows its results and goes beyond the limits of announcement and signing.

Before the signing ceremony, lawyer Muhammad Noor Al-Dabbas, the legal advisor to the Jordanian Writers and Intellectuals Union, read the clauses of the cultural cooperation protocol to the attendees, in preparation for signing it between the two parties.

The ceremony concluded with the signing of the protocol, where it was signed by Aliyan Al-Adwan, President of the Jordanian Writers and Intellectuals Union, and Dr. Maysoon Essa Ahmed Al-Sulaim, representative of the Arab Union for Culture in Jordan, and its delegate to the Jordanian Writers and Intellectuals Union, and the commissioner authorized to sign on behalf of the Union's presidency.

The protocol establishes a framework for cooperation between the two parties in cultural, literary, and research fields, developing joint programs and activities, expanding communication channels, and exchanging expertise between writers, intellectuals, and thinkers, supporting the presence and circulation of cultural and intellectual production at the Arab level.
