The “MPs in the Field” initiative inspected the reality of health services in Irbid Governorate during a field tour that included the Irbid Health Affairs Directorate and the new Princess Basma Teaching Hospital, with the aim of reviewing work progress, following up on citizens' observations, and evaluating the level of services provided on the ground.
The initiative's delegation included MPs: Abdel Nasser Al-Khasawneh, Tareq Bani Hani, Shaher Shatnawi, Mohammad Bani Melhem, and Abdel Halim Al-Ananbeh.
MP Abdel Nasser Al-Khasawneh affirmed that the “MPs in the Field” initiative was launched to follow up on citizens' direct observations and meet with officials to listen to the most prominent challenges they face, stressing at the same time the importance of activating electronic services and delivering them effectively to citizens, and recruiting a specialized service guide to introduce patients to digital applications, especially in the field of health insurance.
In turn, MP Tareq Bani Hani stressed the need to continue developing and upgrading health services without any regression, confirming that the MPs will adopt the directors' demands, follow up on them, and address the government immediately to bridge any shortage in medical staff and supplies to ensure the continuity of providing services with the highest efficiency.
For his part, MP Shaher Shatnawi emphasized the necessity of organizing direct and effective coordination between peripheral and referral hospitals and the administration of Princess Basma Hospital regarding medical referrals and the organization of occupancy rates and admissions, to ensure the accommodation of emergency cases and reduce pressure on staff and beds.
As for MP Mohammad Bani Melhem, he stressed the importance of providing referral hospitals with the necessary medical staff and filling the vacancies that were taken at the beginning of the opening of Princess Basma Hospital from health centers and peripheral hospitals.
For his part, MP Abdel Halim Al-Ananbeh affirmed that the nation's MPs are conducting field tours covering all governorates, noting that these tours come to listen to citizens' observations closely and to emphasize the extreme importance of the health sector and the necessity of providing services to patients with the best quality levels and facilitating health insurance transactions without any delay.
In response to what was raised by the MPs during the visit to the Health Directorate, the Director of Irbid Health, Dr. Thaher Al-Balas, confirmed that the Directorate is continuing development and modernization plans in accordance with the Ministry of Health's strategy, pointing to the implementation of continuous field tours of health centers to identify their needs, allocating land studies for the establishment of new health centers, in addition to discussing the future vision for utilizing the old Princess Basma Hospital building.
In the second stop, and based on the observations and demands reviewed by the parliamentary delegation, the Director of the new Princess Basma Teaching Hospital, Dr. Walid Al-Halabi, provided a detailed and extensive explanation of the most prominent treatments implemented by the hospital administration to deal with overcrowding and improve the quality of service provided to citizens.
Al-Halabi indicated that the problem of delayed appointments for radiological imaging was completely ended by operating imaging equipment during official holidays for two consecutive months, which contributed to ending all overcrowding and clearing waiting lists completely.
Al-Halabi added that the bed occupancy rate has decreased to about 80% thanks to the administrative and medical measures taken, after it previously reached 100%, which contributed to providing vacant beds in admission wards and the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), reviewing the mechanisms for activating the duty of specialist doctors during holidays to examine stable cases and accelerate their discharge procedures.
Dr. Walid Al-Halabi pointed out that the hospital includes distinguished medical and nursing staff and is moving steadily towards developing its services, confirming the hospital's response and readiness to perform qualitative and precise surgical operations during the coming period to serve the people of Irbid Governorate and the residents of the northern region and the entire Kingdom.
At the conclusion of the tour, the MPs emphasized the importance of continuing to provide the best services to the health sector and maintaining the sustainability of its development, praising the efforts of the health and administrative staff in the Health Directorate and the hospital, and confirming the continuation of their field tours to convey all observations to decision-makers in the government to follow up on them and take the necessary measures to address them.
