Majd Al-Din Naeem: Five Stories Searching for Light in the Darkness

The writer Majd Al-Din Naeem takes the reader on five narrative journeys where feelings of fear, loss, love, betrayal, and confrontation intersect, through a novel project that places humans in the face of harsh circumstances and seeks spaces of light amidst the darkness of reality.

Naeem's experience includes five novels: 'The Red Flood', 'The Empty Train Ticket', 'We Are Content with This', 'A Drop of Sun', and 'After Several Years Earlier', whose worlds vary between crime, war, corruption, and human relationships, while they are united by the presence of characters who find themselves facing tests beyond their capacity to endure.

In 'The Red Flood', a writer working for a newspaper becomes involved in a murder, starting a journey of revenge and pursuit of everyone who played a role in his involvement, while 'The Empty Train Ticket' tells the story of a writer trying to get his novel to the reader, facing a society where interests intertwine with family values, before circumstances prevent the work from seeing the light.

The novel 'We Are Content with This' puts a couple in direct confrontation with war, as bombing forces them to take shelter in a refuge, turning the moment of fear into an opportunity to revisit the past and confront truths that have been postponed between them.

In 'A Drop of Sun', Naeem draws the story of a family trying to build a new future in a city where authority and corruption intersect, where the lives of the father Zahed and his son Wafi intertwine with loss, betrayal, love, and revenge, in a journey where only a ray of light remains amidst a reality burdened by fractures.

The novel 'After Several Years Earlier' opens up to a world where the circles of art and authority intersect, through the writer Hilal Al-Arfan, who finds himself facing a network of interests and influence after trying to help a girl escape from domestic violence and forced marriage. Events develop into a conflict where writing, journalism, art, and truth intertwine, leading to a moment where the question of a story's ability to change reality becomes more pressing.

Alongside his novels, Naeem presents a series of short texts titled 'The Owner of the Five Novels' as part of his participation in the Amman International Book Fair, based on a literary dialogue between a man and a woman in front of his novels, through which the writer's questions about the self, time, memory, and how the other can read the human through what they write are revisited.

Naeem's experience uses writing as a space to express human issues related to fear, loss, love, and the search for self, while his novels reveal a clear tendency to build the story on paradoxes and internal and external conflicts, keeping the characters in constant confrontation with their reality and questions.

Naeem participates with his works in the Yafa Scientific Publishing and Distribution House pavilion, number A46, at the Jordan Exhibition Center – Mecca Mall, during the events of the Amman International Book Fair 2026, which continues until the 3rd of October next.
