Amman —

He promised and fulfilled

What happened in "Hamoud," the model Jordanian village, was a painful and bloody incident in the eyes of Jordanians, with no distinction between Muslim and Christian. We are the ones whom the world knows as "Jordanians and Arabs"; the Hashemite Arab Prophet passed through our eastern desert, and under the blessed tree, the monk "Bahira" met him, just as the Lord Christ was baptized in the Jordan River at the hands of John the Baptist.

Terrorism has erred in understanding the composition of the Jordanian people and the presence of their Hashemite leadership, the descendants of the Hashemite Prophet Muhammad bin Abdullah—may God bless him and grant him peace. Terrorism failed to read that Jordanians are preparing to celebrate the second millennium of the baptism of the Lord Christ in 2030, because they are ignorant of the history of this nation and that Christians in it are the oldest social segment living on its land, side by side with their brothers, the people of Jordan, in harmony and peace.

The murderous terrorists chose for their crime to be treacherous, turning a funeral occasion into a crime and a major massacre. Its victims were innocent Jordanians whose ancestors and fathers contributed to building the old and modern Jordan and defended, along with their Muslim brothers, its existence and survival. This was part of a malicious plan by parties that cannot have any connection to the people of this country or their nature and customs, because it serves only the interests of Jordan's enemies abroad first, and internally second.

Jordanians who gathered in the village of "Hamoud" say, "Every cloud has a silver lining," because it led to the formulation of an unprecedented Jordanian stance of cooperation, sympathy, and solidarity among the people of one Jordanian nation and their leadership, which promised and fulfilled its promise. The gathering in "Hamoud" was a source of pride for every Jordanian from the north to the south and from the east of the Kingdom to its west, across all spectra and ethnicities, without discrimination or division. Jordanians drew a wonderful picture of cohesion, solidarity, and unity, in which the people of Karak felt they were not alone in this horrific tragedy, but rather in a great homeland guarded by a great army and a brilliant, courageous King whom the ordeal only made stronger and more steadfast in principle.

I saw with my own eyes during the funeral ceremony how the Jordanian presence was majestic and moving, with its leadership and people, and how the ululations rose above the sound of gunfire, and how the people of the north met the people of the south in the large tent that brought Jordanians together on this occasion, which will not be forgotten and will not fade from the memory of Jordanians.

Terrorism has overstepped and acted tyrannically in this painful incident... but Jordan, through the voice of the King in his military uniform, the government, the army, and the people, have all agreed on a decisive confrontation with this dangerous divisive ideology. There will be no pardon or forgiveness for those who belong to it, who have adopted the paths of killing and treachery against the innocent in a cowardly and cheap manner. We will confront them with the language of decisiveness and strength possessed by our army, our security forces, and the well-known Jordanian judiciary.

Finally, what we want in these difficult hours is to stand behind His Majesty the King so that this incident turns into a serious review to eradicate the sources of extremism, strengthen the role of science, thought, and religious institutions, and consolidate the Amman Message and the concept of moderate Islam in the life and future of our society and our dear homeland. We emphasize that our true Islam throughout the centuries has not been a call to exclude the other, but a call for dialogue with them and the achievement of common goals through it.
