“We are protecting Christianity – its communities and its heritage – in its original and historic home, while we defend the true image of Islam in the face of voices of hatred.”
“We will continue to carry the trust of the Hashemite Custodianship and preserve the historical and legal status quo of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.”
Among the practical steps that can be taken to achieve the goal of limiting the negative effects of this heinous crime is the formation of a Jordanian delegation that includes Islamic and Christian religious authorities from various Christian denominations, in addition to Jordanian political and social figures from both Muslims and Christians, to visit the highest Christian authorities in the world.
This includes the Pope of the Vatican, the head of the Catholic Church, the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople for the Greek Orthodox, the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, the Patriarch of Alexandria, the Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, and the Patriarch of Jerusalem.
It is also proposed that the delegation meet with the patriarchs of the Oriental Orthodox churches, led by the Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark for the Coptic Orthodox Church, the Patriarch of Antioch and All the East and head of the Syriac Orthodox Church, and the head of the Armenian Orthodox Church, in addition to the heads of the Orthodox churches in Ethiopia, Eritrea, and India.
It is advisable that the visits also include the Anglican Church, represented by the Archbishop of Canterbury, in addition to representatives of the Protestant churches.
The mission of the proposed delegation is to explain the reality of the shared life of Jordanians, Muslims and Christians, to highlight the extent of their social, cultural, and economic cohesion, and to emphasize that this cohesion constitutes a fundamental pillar of the Jordanian national identity.
It is necessary for the activities of the proposed delegation to receive wide media coverage in the countries it will visit; because we must address global public opinion, not just address ourselves. This is one of the possible ways to limit the negative effects of the heinous crime, convey Jordan's message to the world, and confirm that its national unity and the coexistence of its people constitute a firm model that must not be allowed to be undermined by the crime.
