First Screening of the Documentary 'Bearer of Dreams' at the Writers' Association

The short documentary film 'Bearer of Dreams' by director Dr. Mohamed El-Beioumi was screened for the first time at the main headquarters of the Jordanian Writers' Association in Amman on Wednesday evening.

The film, organized in collaboration between the Association and the Arab Federation for Social Solidarity at the League of Arab States, tells the story of karate coach Hossam Ayad and his group of children with special needs (Down syndrome patients) in Jordan who have been training in the sport for over thirty years and have achieved international championships in karate competitions for the disabled.

Following the film screening, a panel discussion on the film and its concept was held, featuring the Director of External Relations of the Federation, Muhammad Bani Hadeel, and the coach Ayad. The discussion was presented and moderated by the Deputy President of the Association, Dr. Mukhlid Barakat.

In his intervention, Bani Hadeel, in the presence of the President of the Association, Dr. Riyadh Yassin, and a number of members of the administrative and general bodies, and a number of players featured in the film and an audience of stakeholders, spoke about the idea of the film and that its director, who resides in Gaza and is also the Federation's delegate there, followed the achievements and championships of these players and requested that a film be made about them in Jordan, explaining that coordination was made with the Royal Film Commission of Jordan and the necessary procedures were taken for that, but the production of the film was delayed for three years due to the war on Gaza until it reached its final stages and was recently released.

For his part, coach Ayad thanked the Association for adopting the screening of this film at its headquarters, which contributes to promoting the culture of humanitarian and voluntary work and informs the public about the marginalization suffered by this segment of society. He also thanked the director who, despite the suffering of the people in Gaza, when he learned about the achievements of these players in championships, he adopted the subject and came to Jordan and took it upon himself to make this film about them, appreciating Jordan's role and its national positions towards the brothers in Palestine and its support for the people in Gaza.

He reviewed how the initiative to train this segment of Jordanian society began 33 years ago and the challenges he faced from society in particular, calling for dealing with this segment with a positive outlook and that they possess a high sense and numerous virtues and have great potential that can be harnessed through training and education to qualify them to occupy their proper place in society instead of marginalization.

He thanked businessman Dr. Dhaher Al-Omar, who adopted this initiative and provided support for it.

He pointed out that he won the 'People of Determination' Award launched by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah in 2009, and the team of players with Down syndrome won the Disabled Karate Championship in America in 2020 and took first place.

He emphasized in his speech that the film encapsulated the most beautiful and wonderful human values in its content.

For his part, Al-Omar confirmed that a person has the will to achieve what they want if they strive, praising the efforts of coach Ayad in adopting this segment of citizens, presenting a group of people with disabilities, training them, and enabling them to achieve their self-worth and status in society and achieve global championships on behalf of Jordan.

At the conclusion, the President of the Association honored the participants in the initiative, the film director, and the seminar moderator with the Association's honorary shields of appreciation.
