"Energy" showcases investment opportunities in the Jordanian mining sector during an international conference in Australia

The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Amani Al-Azzam, affirmed that the Jordanian mining sector enjoys the support and patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II, within the framework of national efforts aimed at developing the sector, attracting high-quality investments, expanding mineral resource exploration activities, and strengthening industries based on them, thereby contributing to increasing value-added and supporting economic growth.

This came during her participation in the International Mining and Resources Conference and Expo (IMARC 2026), held in Sydney, Australia, where she reviewed, during a global investment opportunities session, the competitive advantages offered by Jordan for investment in the mining sector and the opportunities available for establishing strategic partnerships with international companies.

Al-Azzam pointed out that His Majesty the King's recent visit to Australia and his meetings with mining and exploration companies reflect the royal interest in strengthening international cooperation and attracting investments that contribute to developing the Jordanian mining sector and maximizing the utilization of mineral wealth.

She indicated that mining is considered one of the priority sectors within the Economic Modernization Vision, which aims to achieve an annual growth of 10% in the sector's contribution to the GDP by 2033, while the National Mining Strategy for 2023–2033 focuses on expanding exploration activities, attracting private sector investments, and enhancing the economic value of mineral resources.

Al-Azzam reviewed the most prominent investment opportunities available in the Kingdom, which include copper, gold, phosphate, rare earth elements, and base metals, in addition to industrial minerals, primarily silica and basalt.

She highlighted the progress made in a number of mining projects, including the signing of executive agreements for copper and gold projects during 2025, and the signing of another agreement for copper exploitation in October 2026, in addition to the progress of studies related to phosphate projects in the east of the Kingdom, with expectations of signing new executive agreements before the end of the current year.

She emphasized the importance of expanding downstream industries based on mineral resources, rather than just extracting and exporting raw materials, which contributes to maximizing value-added, developing local industrial production, and providing new job opportunities.

Regarding the investment environment, Al-Azzam explained that the Natural Resources Law No. (19) of 2018 and the regulations issued thereunder provide a legal framework for investment in the exploration and development of mineral resources, noting that the executive agreements for projects are approved by laws, which enhances legal stability and provides guarantees for long-term investments.

She added that the Ministry is working to facilitate investors' access to available opportunities and technical information through an interactive map published on its website, in addition to completing the development of a unified digital platform that allows for the submission and electronic tracking of investment applications and communication with relevant government agencies, in preparation for its launch soon.

She also reviewed the infrastructure supporting investment in the Kingdom, including road, electricity, and natural gas networks, emphasizing the importance of energy supplies to support mining projects and related industries, as well as the future opportunities provided by green hydrogen and green ammonia projects to support industrial development, especially industries based on phosphate.

Al-Azzam stressed the necessity of adhering to the principles of responsible mining and environmental protection requirements, and ensuring the realization of economic and social benefits for local communities in mining project areas, which consolidates the sustainability of the sector and enhances its contribution to comprehensive development.

At the conclusion of her participation, she invited international companies and investors to explore the investment opportunities available in the Jordanian mining sector and to build long-term partnerships that contribute to transforming mineral resources into productive and industrial projects with added value.

The Jordanian delegation participating in the conference included the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Engineer Amani Al-Azzam, the Director of the Geology and Geological Mining Directorate, Hisham Al-Zyoud, and Naim Al-Madani from the Investment Department at the Royal Hashemite Court.

The International Mining and Resources Conference and Expo (IMARC) is considered one of the most prominent international events specialized in the mining sector, as the 2026 edition is witnessing the participation of about 12,000 participants from nearly 120 countries, in addition to more than 500 exhibitors, including government officials, mining company leaders, investors, experts, and providers of mining technologies and services, making it an international platform for exchanging expertise, reviewing investment opportunities, and building partnerships in the sector.
