"A World Apart", an Italian film about education and life in a small town, on the Rainbow screen

The Royal Film Commission of Jordan, in cooperation with the Italian Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Amman, will screen the Italian feature film "A World Apart" by director Riccardo Milani, at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, October 20, at the Rainbow Theater in Jabal Amman, as part of the 26th edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World.

The film, produced in 2024 and running for 113 minutes, offers a blend of comedy and drama, addressing issues of education, belonging, and community solidarity through the story of a teacher who decides to change his career path after four decades of teaching in the Italian capital, Rome.

The events revolve around teacher Michele Cortese, who moves to a small town in central Italy to work in a school that houses a single classroom for children aged between seven and ten. Facing difficulty adapting to his new environment, he finds support from the deputy principal, Agnese, and his students, and gradually begins to build a relationship with the place and its inhabitants.

However, the stability of his new life does not last long, as he faces the threat of the school closing permanently at the end of the academic year due to not having enough students enrolled for the following year. He then begins a journey of attempts to save the school and preserve the future of its children, in a story that raises questions about the importance of education and the role of small institutions in the lives of local communities.

The film won four awards, including two Italian Silver Ribbon awards for 2024: Best Comedy Film and Best Actress in a Comedy Film. It was also nominated for two additional awards in Italy.

The film will be screened in Italian with Arabic and English subtitles. It is not suitable for those under sixteen years of age, and admission will be free to the public.
