The head of the West Irbid Municipality Committee, Mohammad Ali Al-Qudah, told Alrai that the agreements come within the framework of the municipality's endeavor to enhance its partnerships with international donor entities, and employ them in improving environmental services and providing job opportunities for the district's residents, in line with the municipality's strategic plan 2024-2028.
Al-Qudah pointed out that the total value of the two agreements amounts to 919 thousand Euros, distributed over two integrated tracks: the first is productive, targeting the municipality's factory and its manufacturing capacity, and the second is operational, targeting the provision of temporary job opportunities for members of the local community in the field of environmental services.
He explained that the value of the first agreement is 315 thousand Euros, covering the cost of raw materials necessary to manufacture 900 waste containers at the municipality's metal and concrete industries factory, and employing 20 blacksmiths for three months to carry out manufacturing work, in addition to developing the factory and raising its production capacity.
He pointed out that manufacturing containers locally in the municipality's factory contributes to supplying the municipality's areas with their need for containers and improving the level of public cleanliness therein, while employing blacksmiths provides direct income for professionals and tradesmen from the region's residents.
He added that the value of the second agreement amounts to 604 thousand Euros, and aims to employ 60 workers in each employment cycle lasting three months, over a 16-month project duration, allowing the rotation of job opportunities to include the largest possible number of beneficiaries from the district's residents.
He noted that the Cash for Green Services program is based on providing paid job opportunities in activities that serve the environment, thereby achieving two goals simultaneously: improving environmental services provided to citizens, and supporting family incomes in the local community.
Al-Qudah emphasized that the municipality's factory, accredited by the Royal Scientific Society, has become a model in sustainable environmental management, as it supplies containers to other municipalities, and delegations from the German Agency for International Cooperation have visited it to learn about its experience, indicating that the two agreements are a culmination of this experience and a confidence in the municipality's ability to manage donor projects efficiently and transparently.
Al-Qudah appreciated the support of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and its partnership with the municipality, stressing the municipality's keenness to implement the two projects according to the scheduled timelines, and to achieve a tangible impact on the ground that the citizen feels in various areas of the municipality.
