The Yemeni Parliament approved, on Sunday, the request of the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, to declare general mobilization to confront the Houthi escalation and protect Yemenis, defend the republican system, constitutional legitimacy, safeguard the sovereignty of the state, and the integrity of its territories.
This came during a meeting of the Council, chaired by its President Sultan Al-Barakani, held via video call, to discuss developments on the national and regional scenes.
The Council said that its decision is based on the provisions of the Constitution and the applicable laws related to general mobilization, referring to Article 37 of the Constitution regarding the declaration of general mobilization, Article 119 related to the powers of the President of the Republic in declaring a state of emergency and general mobilization, in addition to the law establishing the National Defense Council and the laws of general reserve and civil defense.
The resolution stipulated that general mobilization shall be implemented in accordance with the Constitution, the decision to transfer power, and the relevant laws, and that it shall take effect from the date of its announcement and shall end when the reasons for it cease to exist.
The Council stressed the need to unite the national ranks and overcome differences, and to work in coordination with the Arab Coalition led by Saudi Arabia, in light of what it described as the circumstances and challenges facing the country.
The Council also condemned what it described as Houthi attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, considering the targeting of the security and sovereignty of countries and the threat to the integrity of their territories as a serious escalation that affects regional and international security and stability.
The Council also appreciated the support of the Arab Coalition led by Saudi Arabia to Yemen, its support to the Yemeni people in various fields, and its support for what it described as the battle to restore the state and end the coup.
