The King's speech before the United Nations.. Jordanian constants and messages to the international community regarding Palestine, international law, and national security

Al-Hawatmeh: The King's speech affirmed Jordan's constants and warned of the consequences of the continuation of crises.

Al-Qaraleh: The application of international law enhances confidence in the international system.

During his speech before the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, His Majesty King Abdullah II placed the international community before its responsibilities towards the region's crises, foremost of which is the Palestinian issue, affirming the necessity of applying international law and the resolutions of international legitimacy to everyone, and protecting Jordan's security, borders, national interests, and water security.

Eye Hussein Al-Hawatmeh said that the importance of the speech stems from its timing and content, in light of the accumulated regional crises, pointing out that His Majesty the King affirmed the constants of the Jordanian position towards the Palestinian issue, foremost of which is supporting the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Al-Hawatmeh added that the speech also affirmed the necessity of applying international law to everyone without exception, pointing out that the exception in its application harms the entire international law system, in addition to affirming that the conflict is essentially political and should not be turned into a religious conflict.

He pointed out that Jordan continues its role in protecting Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, based on the Hashemite custodianship, alongside its commitment to protecting religious diversity and promoting the values of moderation and coexistence.

Al-Hawatmeh pointed out that His Majesty the King's speech carried a clear message regarding the consequences of what is happening in Gaza and the West Bank, and that the effects of the crises are no longer confined to their direct parties, but have extended to the region and the world, affirming that the continuation of the crises reflects on security, stability, and the economy.

Regarding Jordanian national security, Al-Hawatmeh explained that His Majesty the King's affirmation that any threat to the northern borders or water security is a threat to Jordanian national security reflects the expansion of the concept of national security to include border protection, facing security threats, and ensuring water resources.

He pointed out that Jordan faces major water challenges, which makes protecting its water rights and sources part of the national security system, pointing out the importance of strategic projects aimed at enhancing water security and reducing dependence on sources that Jordan does not control.

Al-Hawatmeh emphasized the importance of utilizing Jordan's relations with brotherly and friendly countries to support its positions on regional issues and protect its national interests, pointing out that Arab coordination, international partnerships, and multilateral diplomacy represent key paths to enhance Jordan's presence and positions.

He said that Jordan has a diplomatic asset that exceeds its geographical and economic size, attributing this to the network of relations that His Majesty King Abdullah II has built over more than a quarter of a century based on trust and credibility.

He added that His Majesty the King was able to make Jordan's voice heard and respected in various capitals, affirming that this status represents an important diplomatic asset that should be utilized to support the Kingdom's positions on regional issues and protect its national interests.

Al-Hawatmeh described His Majesty the King's leadership as a 'wise leadership' that has succeeded in maintaining Jordan's presence and positions in the face of regional transformations and crises, pointing out that the Kingdom has been able to present itself to the world as a 'voice of reason and moderation' that is respected, despite the limited resources and difficult geography.

He pointed out that strengthening relations with brotherly and friendly countries, activating Arab coordination and international partnerships, alongside presence in international organizations and forums, represent key paths to support the Jordanian position, affirming at the same time that the strength of foreign policy is linked to the solidity of the internal front and the economic ability to withstand.

Al-Hawatmeh affirmed that Jordan has been able, in the midst of regional turmoil, to maintain its stability and enhance its presence as a partner in efforts aimed at achieving security and stability in the region.

For his part, Professor of Political Science and International Relations, Dr. Abdul Hakim Al-Qaraleh, said that His Majesty the King's speech carried clear and direct messages to the international community on the necessity of bearing its moral and legal responsibilities towards the region's crises, foremost of which is the Palestinian issue.

Al-Qaraleh explained that His Majesty the King pointed out the flaws that plague the international system, especially the gap between international decisions and their implementation mechanisms, pointing out that the issuance of decisions without their application and implementation weakens the value of international law and affects the credibility of the international system.

He stressed that the message carried by the speech is the necessity of invoking international legitimacy and applying international law without laxity, selectivity, or double standards, in order to enhance confidence in the international system and its ability to deal with crises.

Al-Qaraleh pointed out that the Palestinian issue remained at the forefront of Jordanian diplomatic activity, affirming that Jordan continues to raise the issue in various international forums and push towards protecting Palestinian rights and addressing the roots of the conflict within political and legal frameworks.

He pointed out that the continued non-application of international legitimacy decisions exacerbates crises and prolongs conflicts, making the transition from issuing decisions to implementing them a necessity to enhance regional and international security and stability.

He stressed that Jordanian diplomacy continues to move on the basis of dialogue and political work, while emphasizing the need to protect Jordanian national interests in light of the rapid developments taking place in the region.

His Majesty the King's speech before the United Nations General Assembly comes at a time when the region is witnessing rapid developments, as His Majesty affirmed that Jordan will not turn away from any threat to its northern borders or water security, and that it will protect its security, water, and the interests of its people.
