A number of church pastors and Awqaf directors in Irbid Governorate affirmed that Jordan is strong through its people and solid national unity, and that it always, in such situations, rallies around its Hashemite leadership in a single rank to thwart any attempt to destabilize the nation's security, stability, and cohesive social fabric.
They considered that what happened in the town of Hamoud in Karak Governorate was nothing but a stab in the side and in the heart of every honorable Jordanian, stressing that firm national unity and rallying behind the Hashemite leadership and security services are the impenetrable dam to preserve the Kingdom's security and stability, and affirming their categorical rejection of all forms of violence and intimidation and their absolute solidarity with the people in Karak.
The pastor of Saint George Greek Orthodox Church in Irbid, Father Dionysius Haddad, said that every Jordanian was pained and affected by this cowardly act, confirming that a homeland ruled by His Majesty King Abdullah II and protected by security services has nothing to fear, and is capable of uprooting terrorism and holding the perpetrators accountable.
Haddad added that the people of Irbid, the "Bride of the North," like the people of all the Kingdom's governorates, live in unique harmony and coexistence among all spectra of the Jordanian people, regardless of their religious and political affiliations.
For his part, the pastor of Saint George Greek Orthodox Church in Al-Husn, Father Eftimios Fawasleh, affirmed that Muslims and Christians in Jordan have been and remain throughout history one body and a cohesive people that crises do not divide, stressing that the hand of treachery is sinful and will not succeed in creating any rift between the members of one people.
Father Fawasleh added: "We in this homeland are the owners of the land, we are remaining and rooted in it, and we will not leave our homeland. We are not strangers or guests, but an authentic growth in this precious soil, and we all stand behind our wise Hashemite leadership," praying to God Almighty to have mercy on the martyrs and protect Jordan, its leadership and its people.
In turn, the pastor of the Latin Church in Irbid, Father Firas Arida, said that feelings today are mixed with the bitterness of sadness and the loftiness of pride and dignity, where everyone renews, with one heart and a voice pulsating with loyalty, their adherence to national unity and absolute loyalty to the wise Hashemite leadership, led by His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II.
Father Arida pointed out that Jordanians follow the approach of the Hashemite leadership and its steady steps in safeguarding the internal front, protecting sanctities, and preserving the oasis of security and safety, affirming absolute and certain confidence in the security services and the Armed Forces – the Arab Army – the watchful eye and the fortified shield to protect the nation's sanctuary and stability.
For her part, Sister Orgina Faraj (of Lebanese descent) said that this is her third visit to Jordan, noting that Jordan is a country of security and safety par excellence, and its people are characterized by feelings of love and close solidarity among all its spectra. She added that this painful incident that occurred pained and touched the hearts of all Jordanians, Christians and Muslims, who share sadness and pain as one family.
For their part, the Awqaf directors—Director of Irbid First Awqaf Dr. Firas Abu Khait, Director of Irbid Second Awqaf Raed Jarwan, Director of Ramtha Awqaf Omar Al-Hammouri, Director of Koura Awqaf Abdul Salam Bani Nasr, and Director of Northern Jordan Valley Awqaf Omar Bani Yassin—affirmed that the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, is the prophet of mercy and tolerance for the whole world, stressing that human dignity is protected in Islamic Sharia, which forbids killing a soul except for a just cause. They explained that no religion approves of killing the innocent, and that the true Islamic religion rejects killing in all its forms and types, let alone if this killing and aggression occurs inside houses of worship such as mosques and churches, which is a matter rejected and refused by all divine laws and human morals.
The Awqaf directors pointed out that Islam is a religion of moderation, centrism, and tolerance, and is free from hate speech and extremism, affirming that those who commit such crimes are nothing but a misguided group outside the ranks of our nation and the values of our authentic Jordanian society.
The church pastors and Awqaf directors sent a message in which they affirmed that Jordan was and will remain an oasis of security and safety, and has fought hate speech and rejected it since the inception of the Jordanian state, explaining that this intrusive criminal act is completely alien to our cohesive Jordanian society and its authentic values based on brotherhood and peaceful coexistence.
They also pointed out that Jordanians, Muslims and Christians, have set the brightest examples of coexistence and harmony over the decades, and live on the soil of this homeland as one body with no division or discrimination, noting that Jordan is the historical haven for sanctities and messages and the land of baptism that witnessed the footsteps of Christ, peace be upon him, and it will remain resilient against anyone who tries to harm its security and national fabric.
