A moment of silence and mourning in Jabal Al-Weibdeh for the souls of the nation's martyrs

The Jordanian Photography Society and the Old Jabal Al-Weibdeh Residents Association organized, on Sunday, a moment of silence at Paris Square in Amman under the slogan "No to Terrorism," in mourning for the souls of the nation's martyrs who ascended in the cowardly terrorist attack that targeted Saint George's Greek Orthodox Church in Karak Governorate.

Participants raised the Jordanian flag, expressing the unity and cohesion of the Jordanian people across all segments under the Hashemite leadership, denouncing the heinous crime that targeted the church and the nation's martyrs, and strongly condemning this criminal act which contradicts human and moral values.

They carried candles to pray for the souls of the martyrs and to express deep grief, using them to spell out the word "Hammoud," referring to the village of Hammoud that embraced the church and the martyrs targeted in this heinous crime. The President of the Old Jabal Al-Weibdeh Residents Association, Omar Al-Faouri, told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that this vigil comes to express solidarity with our families and the relatives of the martyrs of the cowardly terrorist attack on Saint George's Greek Orthodox Church and the martyrdom of citizens, and to reject terrorism and combat takfiri ideologies foreign to our society that some try to instill in the minds of young people.

Al-Faouri emphasized that Christian clans have made significant contributions throughout Jordan's history for hundreds of years, calling for the necessity of instilling awareness and education to reject extremism, which begins within the family at home and extends to society as a whole.

He stressed that this grave tragedy affected and targeted all Jordanians, pointing out that Jordan is targeted by terrorism exported to us from abroad, yet it will remain—through the solidarity and cohesion of its people—defiant against anyone who tries to undermine its unity and resilience under the Hashemite banner.

For his part, the acting president of the Jordanian Photography Society, Engineer Wael Al-Hijazeen, told (Petra) that the idea of the solidarity vigil came in cooperation with the Old Jabal Al-Weibdeh Residents Association under the slogan "No to Terrorism," expressing rejection of hate speech and incitement, and condemnation of this heinous crime.

Al-Hijazeen stated that this vigil also aims to educate people and spread awareness by mobilizing crowds and imagery, especially on this difficult day which witnessed the farewell of Jordan's martyrs who ascended in the cowardly terrorist attack at Saint George's Greek Orthodox Church in the village of Hammoud.

He affirmed that the participation of children, youth, and adults alike in this vigil and the raising of the Jordanian flag emphasizes the unity of the Jordanian people across all their various segments, strata, and cultural and religious diversity, and their absolute rejection and denunciation of this crime that touched every Jordanian man and woman.

He noted that holding this vigil in Jabal Al-Weibdeh, the mountain of love and culture that brings Jordanians together, with the participation of these masses, affirms the authentic values of Jordanians that call for love, cohesion, and the rejection of hate speech and extremism in all its forms, stressing the unity of the Jordanian people in confronting this terrorist attack under the Hashemite leadership.
