The 11th edition of the Mafraq Poetry House Festival kicks off today

The activities of the 11th edition of the Mafraq Poetry House Festival for Arabic Poetry for the year 2026 begin today at the National Library Department in Amman, organized by the Sharjah Department of Culture in cooperation with the Jordanian Ministry of Culture and the Mafraq Poetry House, under the slogan "Poetry is the Diwan of the Arabs," with the participation of a selection of Jordanian poets, spanning four days across three governorates.

The festival, which bears the title "Eleven Planets on the Jordanian Poetic Scene," comes as an affirmation of the presence of poetry in the Jordanian cultural scene and its role in consolidating aesthetic identity and enhancing communication between poets, critics, and intellectuals in light of the transformations witnessed by the contemporary world.

The first day's activities begin at 5:30 PM with the opening of an Arabic calligraphy exhibition and an exhibition of publications by the Sharjah Department of Culture. The official ceremony will be held at 6:00 PM, including welcoming remarks from the Poetry House, the Ministry of Culture, and the Sharjah Department of Culture, followed by a special film screening about poetry houses, and then poetry readings featuring Rashed Issa, Hisham Oudeh, Nizar Awni Al-Labadi, Ayoub Al-Zayoud, and Iman Abdel Hadi.

Activities continue on Thursday, October 29, at the National Library Department in Amman at 4:00 PM, with a poetry evening featuring Tayseer Al-Shamaseen, Zakaria Al-Zagamim, Maysara Al-Kilani, Zuhair Abu Shayeb, and Duaa Al-Bayatneh, moderated by novelist Anan Mahrous.

On Friday, October 30, the festival moves to the Jerash Cultural Center, where a poetry evening will be held at 5:00 PM, with the participation of Waad Al-Atoum, Ali Al-Noubani, Mohammed Tayseer Al-Qadiri Al-Tawalbeh, Osama Mazid, and Maysoun Al-Noubani, moderated by Dr. Oqla Al-Qadiri.

The festival concludes on Saturday, October 31, at the Mafraq Poetry House at 6:00 PM, with an evening featuring Iman Al-Omari, Hussein Al-Bashaireh, Adel Al-Tartir, Qasim Al-Daraghmeh, and Warda Saeed.

Through the festival, the Mafraq Poetry House reaffirms its continued efforts to support the Jordanian poetic movement, provide an opportunity for poetic voices to express their experiences, and enhance dialogue between poets, critics, and thinkers, based on the belief in the role of poetry in enriching cultural life and consolidating the values of beauty and humanity.
