Ruwaished and Hamdan: ((Culture is a bridge for communication and enhancing identity and shared memory)))

Minister of Culture Mustafa Al-Ruwaished and his Palestinian counterpart Imad Al-Din Hamdan stressed the importance of enhancing Jordanian-Palestinian cultural cooperation, and expanding the areas of coordination between the two countries to support the cultural and artistic movement and preserve the shared memory, identity, and heritage.

This came during a meeting held yesterday at the Royal Cultural Center, in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Culture, Dr. Nidal Al-Ayyasrah, during which the two sides discussed aspects of joint cultural cooperation and ways to develop relations between intellectuals and creators in Jordan and Palestine.

Al-Ruwaished said that Jordan and Palestine are linked by a common destiny, and that the Palestinian cause is a priority for every Jordanian, pointing to the positions of His Majesty King Abdullah II in support of the Palestinian cause, most recently his speech before the United Nations General Assembly.

He stressed the importance of the Palestinian presence in the Jordanian cultural scene, noting that the cultural events, festivals, exhibitions, and conferences held in the Kingdom provide an opportunity for Palestinian participation, reflecting the depth of cultural ties between the two countries.

Al-Ruwaished pointed to the Ministry of Culture's readiness to enhance cooperation with the Palestinian side and exchange experiences and expertise in the fields of documentation, archiving, heritage protection, and support for creators, stressing that culture represents a bridge for communication between the two peoples.

For his part, Hamdan appreciated Jordan's role in supporting Palestinian culture, praising the strong cultural relations between the two countries, and stressing the importance of developing joint cultural projects and programs and continuing coordination between the two ministries to serve the cultural and artistic movement.

Hamdan praised Jordan's and His Majesty King Abdullah II's positions towards the Palestinian cause, considering His Majesty's speech before the United Nations General Assembly “honorable for every Arab” and that it conveyed a clear message to the world.

The meeting addressed proposals to develop cooperation in the fields of archiving, documentation, training, and exchange of expertise, in addition to discussing the organization of joint cultural events and conferences in Amman.

The two sides agreed to renew the executive program for cultural cooperation between the two countries in implementation of the cultural cooperation agreement signed between the two parties previously, and discussed reorganizing the “Library Seminar of the Levant” that was previously held, and developing a concept for its revival in cooperation with the Levant Libraries Associations.

The ministers affirmed the continuation of work to expand the horizons of Jordanian-Palestinian cultural cooperation in the coming phase to enhance communication between the two peoples and support the presence of culture in facing challenges and protecting the shared heritage.
