Russia announced on Wednesday that it had shot down 596 Ukrainian drones overnight, a day after a phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, during which they discussed ways to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
Krasnodar region governor (south) Veniamin Kondratyev stated in a post on "Telegram" that the attacks announced by the Russian Ministry of Defense resulted in the death of four people in the city of Novorossiysk.
President Volodymyr Zelensky had previously confirmed that Russia informed Donald Trump's envoys of its readiness to begin negotiations regarding the war in Ukraine, noting the possibility of a "de-escalation" during the winter season.
Zelensky said that Russian President Vladimir Putin "needs Trump" and does not want to "anger him," especially before the midterm elections scheduled for early November.
Consequently, the Kremlin expressed a "readiness for dialogue," according to Zelensky, citing what was confirmed to him by US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who visited Moscow and Kyiv respectively over the weekend to meet with the two presidents.
Axios indicated that among the paths proposed by Washington to begin a peace process is the possibility of a "de-escalation" before or during the winter season.
