Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has arrived in the United States to attend a G20 foreign ministers' meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, according to the official Russian news agency TASS on Friday.
The two-day meeting comes amid a stalemate on various fronts, from the US-Iran conflict to the fighting in Ukraine, while oil prices remain high.
These talks, held just a few days before the US midterm elections, will pave the way for the G20 leaders' summit in December in Miami, specifically at the "Doral" resort owned by President Donald Trump.
Moscow announced on Thursday that Lavrov will use his speech there to express his rejection of international sanctions. His visit precedes a new round of talks between officials from Moscow, Kyiv, and Washington aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.
