Witkoff arrives in Moscow to meet Putin, carrying an updated proposal to end the war in Ukraine

US envoy Steve Witkoff arrived on Wednesday in the Russian city of Saint Petersburg to hold talks with President Vladimir Putin on ending the war in Ukraine, carrying an updated proposal that includes new ideas presented by Kyiv during consultations he held with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders in the Norwegian capital, Oslo.

Kremlin advisor for international economic cooperation Kirill Dmitriev received the US envoy at Pulkovo Airport in Saint Petersburg, according to Russian news agencies.

The American website "Axios" quoted a US official as saying that Witkoff will present to Putin an updated proposal to end the war, as part of Washington's efforts to reach understandings that pave the way for launching direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.

The official explained that the United States, Ukraine, and European partners have worked to crystallize new ideas and proposals with the aim of preparing a joint framework that can be presented to Moscow, noting that the Oslo talks made progress toward coordinating positions on the next steps.
