Jordan affirmed today its pride in the brotherly relations that bind the Kingdom to the sisterly Syrian Arab Republic, and its keenness to develop these relations in a way that serves the interests of both brotherly countries and ensures coordination in facing all common challenges, including the ISIS organization, which poses a common threat to both countries.
The Minister of Government Communications and official government spokesperson, Dr. Mohammad Al-Momani, affirmed the great respect for the Syrian state and its brotherly people, stressing that the coordination between Jordan and Syria in fighting terrorism and the smuggling of weapons and drugs is institutional and continuous, has been ongoing for years, stems from a firm conviction to consolidate the security of both brotherly countries, and reflects their joint work to establish security and stability.
The official spokesperson emphasized that the bombing operations carried out by the Jordanian Armed Forces – the Arab Army, yesterday, targeted sites of the ISIS organization after Jordan's patience ran out regarding the movements of these terrorist organizations and their targeting of national security.
He indicated that the operations were carried out based on field intelligence to neutralize confirmed threats and terrorist operations against Jordan, noting that the initial results of these operations indicate, as of now, significant losses among ISIS ranks, estimated at more than 20 members, and the destruction of a massive weapons depot belonging to the organization.
The spokesperson expressed regret for the occurrence of civilian casualties, noting that Jordan refrained from targeting sites where information indicated the presence of civilians, and confirmed that the competent Jordanian authorities are following up on this matter with their Syrian counterparts.
Al-Momani stressed that Jordan always takes all precautions to avoid harming civilians, as it attaches the same importance to the lives of innocent civilians outside its borders as it does to the lives of Jordanians, based on its belief that human life and dignity are indivisible values, regardless of nationality or location.
Al-Momani indicated that work will be done with our brothers to form a joint committee to follow up on the repercussions of the operation against ISIS and to develop coordination in combating the terrorist organization, in a way that ensures the security of both brotherly countries and peoples and protects civilians.
The official government spokesperson affirmed that the security of Jordan and Syria is one, and that combating terrorism, which targeted Jordan days ago in the village of Hamoud in Karak, is a common goal for both countries, which will continue to work on strengthening their firm brotherly relations.
The Minister of Government Communications concluded his remarks by emphasizing that no one can question Jordan's commitment to Syria; we have hosted Syrians, stood by their side, and provided them with continuous support, as the Kingdom seeks to stand by sisterly Syria, support its security, strengthen its unity and internal front, and enhance its presence at all levels. Furthermore, Jordan coordinates with international parties for the safety of Syrian territory, ensuring its unity and stability, and repelling ambitions against it, especially in southern Syria.
