Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abu Al-Saud and U.S. Ambassador to Jordan Jim Holtsnider sponsored the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement between the Jordan Valley Authority and the American company "Rainmaker Technology Corporation" to enhance cloud seeding and increase rainfall in targeted areas in northern Jordan, most notably the Al-Wehda Dam and the Kafranja Dam.
The agreement was signed at the Ministry of Water and Irrigation headquarters by the Secretary-General of the Jordan Valley Authority, Hisham Al-Hisa, and the CEO of the company implementing the cloud seeding project, Rainmaker, Mr. Augustus Doricko, in the presence of the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan, the Ministry's Secretary-General Jihad Al-Mahamid, the Secretary-General of the Water Authority Sufyan Al-Batayneh, and a number of officials.
Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abu Al-Saud stated that this agreement comes within the framework of efforts to enhance water security in light of increasing challenges, adding that "securing Jordan's water future in the long term requires innovative solutions based on technological progress and practical development."
He indicated that the partnership with leading American technology companies to enhance rainfall in the Al-Wehda and Kafranja dam basins is an important step toward increasing available water resources for drinking and other essential uses, improving dam storage capacity, and strengthening Jordan's national water security.
For his part, the Secretary-General of the Jordan Valley Authority, Hisham Al-Hisa, said that this specialized cloud seeding project aims to increase rainfall by using modern techniques based on scientific monitoring and analysis of atmospheric conditions and clouds, and is an extension of previous national efforts.
He added that this project will contribute to increasing water flows to the northern dams in Jordan through modern techniques to enhance rainfall, which supports the provision of water to local communities, noting that the project will also contribute to enhancing the ability to utilize cloud seeding techniques in Jordanian climatic conditions and building a national knowledge and technical base.
This agreement comes as a continuation of the permanent partnership between Jordan and the United States in activating the use of modern technologies to face the challenges of the water sector, and it will support the application of American expertise and technologies in addition to raising the efficiency of local technical capabilities in Jordan.
