The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Ayman Safadi, held a phone call today with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic, Assad Al-Shaibani.

During the call, the two ministers affirmed the historical depth of the distinguished brotherly relations that unite the two brotherly countries and peoples, and the mutual keenness to strengthen and develop them in various fields, and to overcome everything that might disrupt them through frank and responsible brotherly dialogue, based on the firm conviction of the interconnectedness of the two countries' security and their common destiny.

Safadi stressed Jordan's full respect for Syria's sovereignty, territorial integrity, security, stability, and the safety of its citizens.

He affirmed that Jordan considers Syria's security and stability as part of its own security, and takes pride in the unprecedented cooperation, coordination, and trust reached in the historical brotherly relations between the two brotherly countries and peoples.

The two ministers discussed the repercussions of the bombing operations carried out by the Jordanian Armed Forces yesterday against sites of the terrorist "ISIS" organization, which Safadi confirmed were based on field intelligence and to neutralize confirmed threats and imminent terrorist operations that were targeting Jordan's security.

Safadi expressed deep regret and pain over the loss of innocent civilian lives during these operations directed against the ISIS organization, which poses a common threat to both countries, and offered his deepest condolences and sympathy to the brotherly Syrian people, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

Safadi stressed that Jordan is as keen on the safety of Syrian citizens as it is on the safety of its own citizens.

Safadi and Al-Shaibani stressed that Jordanian-Syrian relations are witnessing close cooperation to face common challenges, foremost of which is defeating terrorism and combating drug and arms smuggling operations across the borders through effective and sustainable institutional channels.

Recognizing the importance of direct field and security coordination in their joint efforts to defeat terrorism, protect civilians, and ensure the highest levels of accuracy and transparency, the two ministers agreed to form a joint security committee to examine all details and facts of the recent operations, follow up on their repercussions, and develop field and intelligence coordination mechanisms to deal with terrorist threats, in a way that ensures the preservation of Syrian sovereignty and the protection of innocent civilian lives, and reflects the strength and durability of the brotherly relations between the two brotherly countries and peoples.
