Bolsonaro leaves Brazil for the United States after losing the election

US media reported that Flávio Bolsonaro left Brazil for the United States on Tuesday, after refusing to concede the election results that favored his rival Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

The Brazilian presidential candidate's passports were revoked, but he had not surrendered the documents to the authorities as of Tuesday afternoon.

US newspapers and media outlets, including The New York Times and CNN, quoted unnamed US officials as saying that Bolsonaro had indeed left Brazil.

For its part, the US State Department announced on Tuesday that it would grant visas to Bolsonaro and his family members and allow them to enter its territory, without confirming whether they were actually on their way.

Brazilian police are investigating corruption allegations against Flávio Bolsonaro regarding the financing of the biographical film "The Dark Horse" about his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro, who is under house arrest on charges of plotting a coup.

Bolsonaro (45), son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, lost the presidential election to the elected leftist president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Flávio will lose his parliamentary immunity when his term as a senator ends in January.

Despite questioning the results of Sunday's election and vowing to challenge them legally, his Liberal Party and allies conceded defeat, which contributed to deepening his political isolation.

The New York Times also reported that Bolsonaro is under investigation regarding ties to a Brazilian lawyer accused of laundering more than a billion dollars as part of a fraud scheme.

His brother, Eduardo Bolsonaro, resides in the United States.

The Ministry of Security and immigration authorities in Argentina denied on Tuesday local media reports claiming that Bolsonaro had entered their territory.
