In a move reflecting its commitment to improving the quality of infrastructure in the city, the Chairman of the Greater Irbid Municipality Committee, Imad Al-Azzam, and the company of Othman Al-Washahi and Partners, signed a maintenance and rehabilitation agreement for King Hussein Street, "formerly Haifa-Baghdad Street".
The Assistant Mayor for Engineering Affairs, Engineer Tahani Hazaimeh, said that the work stages will include paving the entire street, starting from the intersection of the street with Dr. Arif Al-Bata'ine Street "Bardy Junction", up to the traffic light that is the last traffic light in the Hawwara area.
Hazaimeh confirmed that the street was previously under the responsibility of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, noting that it forms one of the main arteries for traffic, commercial, and industrial movement in Irbid Governorate. It is also an important passage towards Al-Hassan Industrial City, in addition to its role in serving commercial and industrial movement and the transportation of goods. It witnesses enormous traffic pressure around the clock, due to its location that longitudinally bisects the town of Hawwara, and it is a major international road.
Hazaimeh added that the implementation of the tender will be carried out according to high technical specifications that ensure the durability of the road and its ability to withstand high traffic pressure. It will also be subject to the necessary quality control tests to ensure the quality of materials and work and their conformity with the approved technical specifications.
The Director of the Municipality's Tenders Directorate, Engineer Inas Haddad, explained that the Municipality referred the tender for paving works with a total cost of approximately one million Jordanian dinars, after the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local Administration approved its referral, according to the procedures stipulated in the Government Procurement System No. 8 of 2022.
Haddad added that the completion of the paving and rehabilitation works is scheduled within four months from the date of the commencement order, clarifying that the referral of the tender came within the legal and technical procedures adopted, and within the Municipality's plan to improve the reality of roads and streets and address the damages that the street has suffered due to traffic pressure and continuous use.
