Foreign Minister: Over two million Gazans are besieged in oppression, deprivation, and suffering

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi said today, Monday, that over two million Gazans are besieged in oppression, deprivation, and suffering because the international community does not use the tools provided by international law against violators of international humanitarian law.

Safadi added that the people of Gaza are deprived of their right to food and medicine not because aid is unavailable but because Israel prevents its entry, where these aids expire in warehouses because Israel prevents their entry.

He pointed out that Jordan was the launchpad for international aid to Gaza before Israel prevented its entry, affirming that the Kingdom is as always ready to work with all partners to ensure an effective humanitarian response.

Safadi emphasized at a seminar on humanitarian diplomacy to uphold international humanitarian law in New York today, Monday, that the international community must activate these tools to stop the growing violations of international law in more than a hundred conflicts in the world, especially in Gaza.

Safadi stressed at the seminar, which was inaugurated by Queen Mathilde of Belgium, the importance of joint international action to ensure accountability for violators of international law.

He pointed out at the seminar, which was sponsored by the Kingdom, the African Union, Brazil, Canada, and organized by the European Union and Ireland, the danger of the international community's habituation to violations of international humanitarian law, especially in Gaza, where Israel has destroyed 92% of its buildings and health infrastructure, and where more than 700,000 Palestinians are deprived of their right to education.

Meanwhile, Safadi is participating today in an event of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) titled: "87 million lives: Keeping the promise" which Jordan is co-sponsoring.

Safadi signed yesterday with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Panama, Javier Martinez-Acha Vasquez, a memorandum of understanding on the mutual exemption from visa requirements for holders of diplomatic passports.

He also met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia, Timko Mucunski, and signed with him a memorandum of understanding on the establishment of political consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries.
