Safadi Calls for Swift Action in Gaza and the West Bank Before Another Catastrophe

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, called on Tuesday for swift action in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank before another catastrophe occurs.

Safadi said during an event marking the one-year anniversary of the launch of the "Declaration on the Protection of Humanitarian Workers," which was launched by Jordan, Australia, Brazil, and Colombia, that over 500 humanitarian workers have been killed in Gaza and more than 100 from the United Nations. He added that what is happening in Gaza now challenges our humanity.

He explained that the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), which continues to operate in Gaza along with other agencies, is calling for the arrival of aid that is expiring to children who need it.

He continued, "We have aid, but if we cannot reach those in need, we cannot give it to them, and without humanitarian workers, we cannot meet these needs."

He explained that he cannot talk about the need for support and assistance to humanitarian workers without emphasizing that what is happening now in Gaza "challenges our humanity."

He stressed that humanitarian workers should not face any threats or risks, pointing out that they risk their lives to provide aid to those in need and work based on shared values.

He emphasized the need to move to support humanitarian workers and provide an environment that allows them to do their work without fear for their lives in the face of all risks.

He explained that humanitarian workers are not shirking responsibility but are rushing towards problems to help women, children, and the wounded in need.

He mentioned that Palestinians are still suffering in Gaza where food supplies do not reach those in need, adding, "Mothers see their children starving, and a large number of people in a small corner of Gaza are unable to access the requirements of a decent life, and this is happening because one country says: no, you cannot rebuild, you cannot allow aid to enter, and you cannot allow humanitarian workers to perform their duties."

He stressed that the first action that must be taken is to speak out against violators of international humanitarian law, speak loudly about these violations, and name those who endanger the lives of humanitarian workers, so that violations are named regardless of politics, power, or the balance of power.
