A man died of serious injuries after being attacked by a tiger, following his entry into the predator's enclosure at a park in northern England on Saturday, South Yorkshire Police announced.
Police said emergency services were called to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park shortly after 1:30 PM, following reports that a man had entered the tiger enclosure before being attacked by one of them.
A widely circulated video on the internet showed the tiger attacking the man and trying to maul him, while the intruder appeared submissive and made no attempt to escape.
Police confirmed that "the tiger remained inside the enclosure" and that "the incident poses no danger to the rest of the public," noting that they are trying to contact the victim's family.
The park was evacuated and closed to visitors for the rest of the weekend, according to police and park management.
Management stated that it activated emergency response procedures immediately after the incident occurred, and that it is cooperating with authorities to determine its circumstances, affirming that the safety of visitors, staff, and animals remains its priority.
The Yorkshire Ambulance Service reported sending two ambulances, an air ambulance, and a doctor to the scene.
