3.6-meter alligator kills a man while fishing in Florida

A 71-year-old man lost his life following an attack by an alligator measuring about 3.6 meters, while he was fishing near a pond in the American state of Florida.

CBS television network reported on Saturday that the attack occurred at Dr. Bradford Memorial Park in the Winter Garden area, where small ponds are connected to Lake Apopka.

It added that Steve Hamilton was attacked while fishing on the bank of one of the ponds, which led to his death.

Captain Michael Mason, of the Winter Garden Police Department, told reporters that the alligator attacked Hamilton while he was standing on the bank and dragged him into the water.

He added: "There are large numbers of alligators in Lake Apopka, and it is not at all surprising to see alligators in this area of the city."

According to a statement issued by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Lake Apopka is known for having large numbers of alligators.
