Swedish Police Announce Shooting of Armed Man Outside Royal Palace

Swedish police announced on Tuesday that they shot an armed man outside the Royal Palace in central Stockholm, after receiving reports of a person causing disturbances and carrying a weapon.

The police said that their officers who went to the scene shot the man.

Stockholm police spokeswoman Susanna Reinaldo told France Press, "The man was injured and taken to the hospital" adding that his injuries are serious, but not life-threatening.

Reinaldo refused to specify the type of weapon the man had, noting that the police operation is still ongoing, but there is no danger to the public.

The Swedish newspaper "Expressen" reported that the man approached the palace guards with a knife and asked them to shoot him.

In a later update, the police said they opened an investigation into "serious threats to a public official" and a serious violation related to knife possession, without providing further details.
