Israeli shelling targets several towns in southern Lebanon and "mock" raids in the north

The Israeli army intensified its artillery shelling and airstrikes on Sunday against several towns in southern Lebanon, concentrated in the Nabatieh Governorate, coinciding with explosions, drone flights, and "mock" raids in the north, according to monitoring by the official National News Agency.

In Nabatieh to the south, artillery shelling targeted the Marjayoun plain with four shells, while Israeli warplanes launched raids on Wadi Hujair and the town of Kfar Tebnit, which was also subjected to a missile strike.

The town of Houla in the Marjayoun district witnessed a massive explosion during the night from Saturday to Sunday, and a large explosion was also recorded in the town of Yahmar al-Shaqif.

In the Bint Jbeil district, shelling targeted the southern neighborhood of the town of Braachit and its surroundings, including the town reserve, while shelling recurred on its outskirts, coinciding with the monitoring of military vehicle movements in the town of Hadatha.

An Israeli drone also dropped two shells onto the roof of a house in the town of Mayfadoun, and shelling hit the outskirts of the towns of Zawtar al-Sharqiyah and Mayfadoun, in addition to the Wadi al-Salouqi valley.

In the South Governorate, Israeli shelling targeted the towns of Al-Mansouri and Majdal Zoun, while Israeli warplanes flew over the Zahrani area.

The attacks also affected northern Lebanon, as the National News Agency reported recording "mock raids at the northern border in the Akkar and Hermel areas."

Mock raids is a term referring to warplanes flying in the skies while creating a massive boom resembling the sound of actual raids, without carrying out actual bombings.

These attacks come following technical military meetings between Beirut and Tel Aviv that kicked off on Tuesday in the US state of Florida under US sponsorship, lasting for two days without announcing their results.

On June 26th, a "framework agreement" was reached between Beirut and Tel Aviv under Washington's sponsorship, which stipulates a gradual Israeli withdrawal from occupied territories, in exchange for the deployment of the Lebanese army there and the disarmament of armed groups.

The agreement also stipulates adopting the principle of "experimental zones" to implement its clauses, yet it has only been applied in 3 towns in southern Lebanon: Froun, Srifa, and Western Zawtar in the Nabatieh district, while more than 50 towns remain under Israeli occupation.

Despite the agreement, Israel continues its aggression against Lebanon, resulting since last March 2nd in the death of at least 4,386 people and the injury of 12,407 others, alongside the displacement of more than one million people.

Israel occupies areas in southern Lebanon, some for decades and others since the previous war between 2023 and 2024, while it pushed during the recent war to a depth of about 10 kilometers inside Lebanese territory.
