Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that his country is still reviewing the US perspectives regarding a seven-day peace proposal, and that it will submit its response in the coming few days, stressing at the same time that Tehran is serious about using diplomacy to protect its interests and national security.
Araghchi said during a meeting with a number of members of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Parliament) that the Iranian delegation presented to the mediators, based on directives from the country's competent authorities, Tehran's conditions and remarks within the framework of a proposal he described as "precise and practical".
He added that, "as much as Iran is steadfast and firm in defending itself, it is also serious in using the tool of diplomacy to secure its interests and national security."
Araghchi explained that the Iranian delegation outlined Tehran's approach during its participation in the UN General Assembly meetings, benefiting from consultations with a number of participating countries, and also presented a seven-day Iranian plan to restore security to the Strait of Hormuz.
He pointed out that the delegation conveyed to the mediators Iran's conditions and remarks regarding the proposal, affirming that his country is simultaneously pursuing its diplomatic path alongside its readiness to defend itself.
Araghchi's remarks came during a three-hour meeting with a number of parliament members, as part of ongoing consultations between the parliament and the diplomatic apparatus regarding foreign policy files.
