Parliamentarian Dr. Abdul-Nasser Al-Khasawneh affirmed that the Royal Address delivered today by His Majesty King Abdullah II at the opening of the ordinary session of the Parliament embodied Jordan's firm national principles, foremost among them combating terrorism and extremism, safeguarding national unity, preserving the strength of our social fabric, and the continued emphasis on the Palestinian cause as Jordan's primary and central issue.
Al-Khasawneh highlighted the profound significance of the Royal Address for Parliament, affirming that it serves as a major impetus for consolidating and enhancing its legislative and oversight roles within the parliamentary chamber. He explained that members of the House of Representatives have received the Royal messages with full responsibility and seriousness, committing to act upon them in the upcoming phase, and stressed that Parliament's oversight and legislative functions are the fundamental tools to ensure effective government performance, develop legislation directly affecting citizens' lives, and reinforce the state of institutions and the rule of law.
Regarding the translation of Royal directives into practical steps, Al-Khasawneh pointed to the launch of the "MPs in the Field" initiative, which carried out extensive field visits across numerous governorates of the Kingdom to directly assess citizens' needs and engage effectively with them in their localities. He noted that these field visits enable MPs to raise parliamentary and oversight questions directly from the field and on the ground, contributing to uncovering facts and efficiently and swiftly addressing basic demands and services, in line with the Royal vision that consistently calls for direct engagement with the Jordanian public.
On the issue of water security, Al-Khasawneh stated that His Majesty highlighted this vital and pivotal topic in the Royal Address, identifying it as a top priority requiring strategic solutions to be established and built upon in the coming phase.
Regarding public freedoms, Al-Khasawneh emphasized that the Royal Address reaffirmed freedom of expression and the principle of accepting differing opinions, clarifying that responsible national opposition must always aim to serve the nation's interest and strengthen its institutions, free from personal or narrow interests—an authentic approach that every Jordanian official and MP should uphold.
