200 recycling machines in various regions within two years

Amman Vision for Investment and Development (AVID) aims to deploy 200 machines for recycling plastic and aluminum containers over the next two years, in a plan starting from the capital and extending to the governorates, with the goal of enhancing source sorting and reducing random waste disposal.

The company's CEO, Amjad Al-Anaswah, said on Tuesday that the project began with 15 machines after a pilot phase that lasted about 3 months to verify their operational efficiency, noting that reports from the sites where they were installed showed positive public response and an increase in the number of containers deposited.

The project comes in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Investment, the Greater Amman Municipality, and other entities, as part of efforts to support the circular and green economy and utilize recyclable materials.

Points and discounts in exchange for containers

The machines rely on a mobile application that allows users to register their data via phone, then collect points by scanning the QR code displayed on the machine's screen and inserting plastic or aluminum containers.

According to Al-Anaswah, points can be exchanged for discounts at commercial shops, restaurants, and major retailers, under agreements with private sector companies, to incentivize citizens to hand over recyclable containers instead of throwing them into bins.

The importance of this step is highlighted by the fact that about 3,500 tons of waste reach the Al-Ghabawi landfill daily, according to studies conducted by the company and the Greater Amman Municipality, as these quantities include materials that can be recycled and utilized in local industries.
