Yemen: Government forces announce control of two areas in Taiz

A Yemeni army commander announced on Tuesday that government forces had taken control of two areas following battles with the Houthi group in the western governorate of Taiz.

Chief of Staff of the Taiz Military Axis, Abdul Aziz Al-Majidi, stated in a video recording viewed by Anadolu Agency that "the armed forces in the Taiz axis have launched an offensive on the Al-Kadaha front, west of Taiz governorate."

He explained that "the armed forces managed to establish control over the Al-Makazima and Al-Mihal areas on the same front," without providing further details.

In a related context, the Media Center of the Yemeni Armed Forces announced in a brief statement that "warplanes targeted a gathering and a command center of the Houthi militia on the Jabal Habashi front, west of Taiz city," without further details.

As of 18:35 GMT, there has been no comment from the Houthi group regarding the claims made by the Yemeni army.

For days, military confrontations have been escalating between government forces and the Houthis on several fronts, particularly in the governorates of Taiz, Al-Jawf, and Al-Bayda, coinciding with airstrikes targeting the group's positions.

Yemen has been witnessing a war since the Houthis took control of the capital, Sanaa, and several governorates in September 2014, before an Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia intervened in March 2015 to support the internationally recognized Yemeni government.
