Writers Association celebrates poet Zuleikha Abu Risha

The Jordanian Writers Association, in cooperation with the "Khotoot wa Thilal" (Lines and Shadows) Library and the "Arzal" Culture Association, celebrated poet Zuleikha Abu Risha during a tribute ceremony held at the House of Culture and Arts on Saturday, in the presence of a gathering of poets, writers, critics, and those interested in cultural affairs.

The ceremony, moderated by poet Dr. Hana Al-Bawwab, began with an overview of the poet's literary career and creative experience. Meanwhile, Mohammad Al-Ameri, head of the "Arzal" Association and member of the administrative board of the Jordanian Writers Association, spoke about Abu Risha's status and cultural experience, and Dr. Rashid Al-Issa discussed features of her poetic and intellectual creativity.

During the ceremony, Abu Risha presented a poetry reading which she chose as an alternative to speaking, so that her poems would be an expression of her experience and vision, in an evening that celebrated the word and its role in expressing humanity and its questions.

For his part, the President of the Jordanian Writers Association, Dr. Riyad Yassin, emphasized that honoring Abu Risha comes in celebration of an intellectual who made writing a field for creativity and questioning, culture a responsibility, and defending freedom a part of her mission, pointing to her contributions to expanding the horizons of language, questioning intellectual and social issues, and championing women with argument and knowledge.

Yassin pointed to the importance of the role played by creators in opening up questions and promoting the freedom of dissent, emphasizing that culture does not advance by closing the door to dialogue, and that creativity is not limited to beautifying the world, but contributes to questioning it and calling for its change, and that the word liberated from fear is capable of defending human dignity and the right to dissent.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Dr. Riyad Yassin presented the honorary shield to poet Zuleikha Abu Risha in appreciation of her literary career and cultural contributions.
