"World Food Program": Driver Killed in Attack on Aid Trucks in Sudan

The United Nations World Food Program announced on Sunday that one of its drivers was killed in an airstrike that targeted two contracted trucks carrying food aid in South Kordofan, southern Sudan.

The program said in a statement: "We strongly condemn the airstrike that targeted two contracted trucks transporting food aid for the program in South Kordofan on Saturday, killing one of the drivers in the airstrike."

The UN program expressed its condolences to the driver's family, friends, and colleagues.

It explained that the trucks were on their way from Deleng city to Kadugli in South Kordofan, carrying clear signs indicating that they were humanitarian vehicles.

It said that additional details regarding the circumstances of the incident and the extent of damage to the food shipment are still being collected.

The program called for a "swift and impartial" investigation into the incident and for holding those responsible for any violations accountable.

It noted that the targeting came a day after one of its trucks collided with an explosive object in Deleng, South Kordofan, after delivering food aid.

The World Food Program urged all parties to the conflict in Sudan to respect their obligations under international humanitarian law, protect civilians and civilian infrastructure, and ensure safe and unhindered movement for humanitarian workers and relief shipments.

On Saturday, the official Sudanese News Agency (SUNA) said that the Rapid Support Forces targeted World Food Program food trucks in Deleng city with drones.

No comment has been issued by the Rapid Support regarding the accusation.

Sudanese authorities and human rights organizations accuse the Rapid Support of targeting civilian facilities, while the latter claims it is working to protect civilians.

On August 24, 2026, the United Nations said that about 1,100 civilians were killed by drone attacks in Sudan between January and June of this year.

The three Kordofan regions, north, west, and south, have been witnessing clashes between the army and the Rapid Support since October 25, 2025.

Since April 2023, the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support forces have been engaged in a war that has left tens of thousands dead and about 13 million displaced and refugees, according to UN and international estimates.
