Sudanese Army: Rapid Support Forces drones shot down over Khartoum

Explosions echoed in the Sudanese capital on Thursday morning near a large military zone in northern Omdurman, while the army confirmed it had shot down drones belonging to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The Sudanese army has controlled the capital since it expelled the RSF in March 2025 in a large-scale military operation, though the latter launches aerial attacks on it from time to time.

A military source said, "Our defenses dealt with the militia's drones that attempted to target areas in northern Omdurman, shot them all down, and they did not achieve their objectives."

Sounds of anti-aircraft fire were heard in Khartoum, followed by five explosions early Thursday morning.

Last month, the RSF targeted Khartoum with drones over two consecutive days, which the army intercepted without causing any casualties.

Despite being subjected to repeated attacks, Khartoum has witnessed a gradual return to life in recent months, with the return of 2.3 million displaced people, the start of reconstruction work, and the resumption of activity in markets.

The war in Sudan has been ongoing since April 2023, having killed tens of thousands, displaced millions inside and outside the country, and led to the spread of famine in several regions.
