US Central Command: Naval blockade has halted Iran's exports and imports

US Central Command announced that the naval blockade imposed on Iran is ongoing, noting that it has weakened Tehran's ability to project its influence beyond its borders and prevented it from exporting at least $25 billion worth of crude oil.

Commander Brad Cooper stated that Iran is no longer able to export or import goods under the tightened naval blockade, adding that more than 50,000 US troops are currently deployed in the Middle East.

Cooper added that commercial vessels continue to transit the Strait of Hormuz despite Iranian attacks.

The United States began imposing a naval blockade on Iranian ports on April 13, 2026, with the aim of preventing the movement of commercial vessels entering and exiting Iranian ports, including those located on the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, according to US Central Command.

Washington stated that the blockade does not target vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz to and from non-Iranian ports.

The United States lifted the blockade in June following an initial understanding with Tehran, before reimposing it on July 14 after the agreement collapsed.
