The US Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on 17 vessels operating within Iran's shadow fleet, noting that the sanctioned vessels transport billions of dollars worth of oil to foreign markets for the benefit of Iran.
The department revealed that Iran has halted oil loading and unloading operations due to the blockade and US sanctions.
The US Treasury Department estimated that Iran still holds up to 20 million barrels of oil on board vessels outside the blockade.
