The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced on Tuesday that more than 250,000 people have been displaced within Yemen since last August, following the resumption of hostilities between the Yemeni government and the Houthi group.
The UNHCR spokesperson, Matthew Saltmarsh, told reporters in Geneva that the organization is deeply concerned about the worsening displacement situation in Yemen, as the number of displaced persons has exceeded the 250,000 mark.
For its part, the UN World Food Programme warned of a sharp deterioration in food security in areas under the control of the Yemeni government, as escalating fighting has led to the displacement of more than 149,000 people, disrupted markets, and restricted the delivery of humanitarian aid.
