Traffic initiative to enhance student safety at Asma Bint Abi Bakr School in Al-Mazar Al-Janoubi

The Director of Education for Al-Mazar Al-Janoubi District, Dr. Ali Al-Faqra, sponsored a traffic initiative at Asma Bint Abi Bakr Basic Mixed School, which included the implementation of designated pedestrian crossings in front of the school, aiming to enhance traffic safety, provide a safe school environment, and protect students from traffic-related hazards, especially during school hours which witness active movement of students and vehicles.

The initiative came as a result of cooperation and coordination between the Traffic Department, the Traffic Institute, Dhat Ras Charity Association, Dhat Ras Ladies Association for Persons with Disabilities, and the New Mo'tah Municipality, as part of enhancing community partnership and the integration of roles between official and civil institutions, and harnessing available capabilities to serve students and respond to school needs in the field of public safety.

The initiative included the implementation of clear pedestrian crossings in front of the school, contributing to organizing the flow of student crossing, drawing drivers' attention to the necessity of taking precautions and caution, reducing speed when approaching crossings, and giving priority to pedestrians, which reduces the likelihood of accidents and provides safer conditions for students as they arrive at and leave the school.

The organizers of the initiative emphasized the importance of combining field measures and traffic awareness, by instilling correct behaviors among students, acquainting them with road crossing rules, the necessity of ensuring the road is clear of vehicles before crossing, and using designated pedestrian crossings, alongside enhancing drivers' awareness of their responsibilities towards students and road users, especially in the vicinity of schools.

Al-Faqra appreciated the efforts exerted by the participating entities in implementing the initiative, praising their role in supporting the educational process and contributing to providing a safe school environment, and affirming the importance of continued cooperation and coordination between the Directorate of Education, concerned agencies, and local community institutions to implement qualitative initiatives that contribute to addressing the field needs of schools and enhancing preventive and protective measures for students.

He pointed out the importance of concerted efforts between official institutions and local community institutions in supporting schools, noting that responsibility for student safety is not limited to educational staff alone, but extends to include various concerned entities and community members, thereby reinforcing the culture of shared responsibility and ensuring the provision of an educational environment that takes into account student safety and needs.

For its part, Mo'tah Municipality affirmed that the participation of local entities and institutions in the initiative embodies the importance of participatory work in implementing programs with a direct impact on society, translating social responsibility into practical actions that contribute to saving lives and reducing traffic risks, in addition to raising awareness of the importance of providing safe pedestrian crossings, especially around schools.
