Traffic crisis in front of schools.. Lack of planning or parents' behavior?

Traffic crises in front of public schools pose a recurring daily challenge, especially during morning peak hours between seven and eight, and when students leave between one and two in the afternoon, which leads to traffic disruption, delays for employees in reaching their workplaces, in addition to the risks that students may be exposed to while crossing streets or getting in and out of vehicles.

With the recurrence of these scenes, citizens' demands in the city of Al-Salt are increasing regarding the necessity of studying the traffic and organizational reality surrounding schools, and taking practical measures that would reduce congestion, improve the flow of vehicle traffic, and enhance traffic safety for students and pedestrians, in light of questions about the adequacy of regulatory measures and the role of parents' behavior in exacerbating the problem.

Citizen Mohammad Jaser said that limiting speeds in front of schools requires providing barriers and clear warning signs, which contributes to alerting drivers to the need to reduce speed and be cautious, stressing the importance of having guards in front of schools during student entry and exit periods to help organize traffic and direct vehicles, which limits traffic chaos and enhances student safety.

For his part, citizen Haitham Jamal pointed out that the synchronization of student entry and exit times represents one of the reasons for traffic congestion, in the absence of time gaps between these times, which leads to a concentration of large numbers of vehicles in the vicinity of schools within a short period of time.

He emphasized the importance of providing safe and designated parking lots for parents, allowing them to drop off and pick up their children away from main streets, and reducing random parking that hinders traffic and increases traffic risks in the vicinity of schools.

In turn, the head of the Traffic Committee in Al-Salt Municipality, Ali Al-Batayneh, told «$» that work is ongoing to implement measures that would enhance traffic safety and improve the flow of traffic in the vicinity of schools, ensuring a safe environment for students.

He explained that the measures include building speed bumps, installing safe iron barriers, as well as clearly marking pedestrian crossings, which helps organize the movement of vehicles and pedestrians and reduces the likelihood of accidents.

Al-Batayneh stressed the importance of the family's role in reducing traffic congestion by instilling traffic awareness in children, adhering to behaviors that consider their safety and the safety of others, and avoiding practices that hinder traffic, foremost among them being random parking in the streets surrounding schools.
