Traffic congestion on several roads in Jordan as work resumes and rain falls

Captain Mohammed Al-Droubi from the Traffic Department said on Tuesday that the start of rain requires drivers to take caution, especially with summer debris and oil on the roads, which can cause vehicles to slip.

Al-Droubi added on Tuesday morning that the Traffic Department emphasizes, with the start of winter, the need to ensure vehicle readiness and suitability during travel, and to consider weather conditions and road conditions, especially during early morning and late evening hours.

He pointed out that an accident occurred on the Airport Road, after Zein Al-Sharif Bridge towards Al-Multaka, following the deterioration of one of the buses, resulting in 40 injuries and one death, in addition to a severe injury.

He explained that civil defense teams and Traffic Department personnel dealt with the incident within their competencies since it occurred, emphasizing at the same time the importance of not obstructing stationary vehicles at accident sites for the work of the competent authorities.

He said that the stopping of some vehicles at accident sites hinders the arrival of civil defense vehicles, ambulances, security agencies, and Traffic Department personnel to the incident site and dealing with it as quickly as required.

Al-Droubi stressed the importance of adhering to traffic rules and priorities, driving within the prescribed speed and in accordance with road conditions and weather, as well as leaving a sufficient safety distance, allowing the driver to avoid any emergency and control their vehicle to reach their destination safely.

Regarding traffic movement, Al-Droubi said that morning hours witness traffic congestion coinciding with the start of work and citizens going to their workplaces, in addition to the movement of school students, noting that the rain led to a slowdown and an increase in traffic congestion.

He explained that traffic controllers are working to separate lanes and deal with some vehicle breakdowns, clarifying that some of the breakdowns dealt with were momentary and did not cause congestion or prevent traffic flow.

He pointed out that there is traffic congestion on Zein Al-Sharif Bridge and Airport Road, with a discharge of traffic after Al-Multaka towards Zein Al-Sharif Bridge, in addition to congestion from Is'lan Bridge towards Prince Hussein Bridge, while some other sites witness a discharge of traffic.

He stressed the need for drivers to adhere to priority rights when exiting secondary intersections towards main streets, taking the designated lane, and specifying the direction of travel, confirming that adherence to these guidelines positively affects traffic flow and reduces risks.
