Traffic Crisis in Front of Public Schools: An Organizational Responsibility or a Lack of Traffic Awareness?

Traffic congestion surrounding public schools in Jordan poses a recurring daily challenge, with peak congestion occurring in the morning between 7:00 and 8:00 AM, and during dismissal between 1:00 and 2:00 PM, causing traffic disruption, delaying employees, and endangering student safety.

Parents' demands and concerns are increasing, calling for a study of the traffic and organizational reality and the implementation of measures to ensure public safety. Citizen Mohammad Jaser pointed out the necessity of installing barriers and warning signs to reduce speed near schools, emphasizing the importance of having guards in front of schools to regulate traffic during student arrival and departure times.

For his part, citizen Haitham Jamal explained that one of the reasons for these congestions is the synchronization of student arrival and departure times without time intervals, stressing the need to provide safe yards and parking spaces for parents' vehicles.

In contrast, the head of the Traffic Committee for the Salt Municipality, Ali Al-Batayneh, stated to "Alrai" that work is ongoing to take measures that enhance safety and traffic flow and ensure a safe environment for students, through the installation of speed bumps, secure metal barriers, and clearly marked pedestrian crossings.

Al-Batayneh added that the family plays a pivotal and indirect role in reducing traffic congestion by instilling a culture of traffic awareness in children and avoiding behaviors that obstruct traffic, such as random stopping on public roads.
