"Bani Obeid Municipality" decides to convert traffic in front of "Alia Secondary School" to one-way

Residents of the Alia area in the Bani Obeid district have renewed their calls for urgent intervention to end the daily traffic suffering and alleviate the severe congestion on the street adjacent to the new Alia Secondary School, which welcomed waves of students at the start of the current semester amidst heavy traffic and the intermingling of transport buses, parents' vehicles, and pedestrians.

The street leading to the school experiences frequent traffic jams, coinciding with the early morning hours and student dismissal at noon, which causes citizens and employees to be late for their appointments and creates confusion in the residential area, in addition to ongoing concerns for the safety of students while crossing the very narrow road.

A number of parents expressed their deep dissatisfaction with the continuation of this situation without radical solutions to end their suffering; parents Mr. Bilal, Mr. Abu Muhammad, and Mr. Ahmed Talfah confirmed that many residents are forced to come in their private cars to transport their children to ensure their safe arrival to classrooms, especially children and the young, which doubles the number of vehicles parked on both sides of the road and leads to its near-total closure during drop-off and pick-up periods.

The residents demanded that all concerned authorities and the Bani Obeid Municipality implement comprehensive traffic solutions, including widening the main street, organizing parking, and opening the school's western gate to create an additional exit that would relieve pressure on the main gate and limit the state of chaos and congestion.

Regarding the request to open the western gate, the Directorate of Education explained that it is not possible to open it at the present time to protect student safety, given the lack of public safety elements on the opposite side due to the presence of open rainwater drainage channels, which poses a danger to students' lives when entering and exiting from that direction.

For his part, the Administrative Director at Bani Obeid Municipality, Muhammad Al-Sharman, confirmed that the municipality's staff and the concerned authorities are fully aware of the dimensions of the traffic problem in front of the school and are following it closely, noting that the current street is narrow by its engineering nature, and that implementing structural expansion works is not possible at the present time due to existing service projects currently under construction.

Al-Sharman pointed out that as soon as the competent authorities finish the current service projects, the municipality will begin widening the street in a way that supports future traffic capacity, noting that as a quick organizational and field measure to limit congestion and ensure traffic safety, it was decided to convert the street in front of the school to one-way during daily peak times, specifically in the morning period from 7:00 to 8:00 AM, and the afternoon period from 12:00 to 2:00 PM.
