Demands for road maintenance in "Sal", Irbid

Demands from the residents of the "Sal" area in Irbid Governorate are increasing, calling on the concerned authorities at the Greater Irbid Municipality to urgently address the crumbling infrastructure of a number of vital streets that have suffered from neglect and oblivion for many years, amid daily suffering that puts their safety and property at risk.

A number of local residents, including Mohammad Al-Kharabsheh, Ahmad Ababneh, Ziad Jaradat, and Abu Saleh Ababneh, confirmed that the road network in the eastern neighborhoods of the "Sal" area is witnessing clear deterioration and worn-out infrastructure that lacks the most basic maintenance work; most notably the "Al-Masahil (Al-Bayad) Street" heading east, in addition to the "street connecting the Al-Masahil area and the Bushra – Ramtha street."

At the forefront of these demands is the issue related to the "New Cemetery Street – Ramtha Street" (the street extending from in front of the new cemetery to the Bushra – Ramtha street), which is currently considered the main and only artery connecting the town of "Sal" to the Bushra – Ramtha street.

According to the citizens, the "New Cemetery Street" and "Al-Masahil Street" hold extreme strategic importance as they are the most vital link serving the area's residents, shortening travel distances to reach their agricultural lands, as well as facilitating traffic flow towards the city of Ramtha. This plea takes on an urgent nature with the approach of the olive harvest season, as these roads witness active and unprecedented movement of machinery, farmers, and vehicles.

The residents added that the "New Cemetery Street" has not seen any maintenance or paving work for many years, and its field condition has become extremely dangerous, especially for families living nearby, who bear the burdens of traffic risks and daily hardship as a result of potholes, random speed bumps, and asphalt erosion.

Response of the Greater Irbid Municipality:

For his part, the media spokesperson for the Greater Irbid Municipality, Ghaith Al-Tal, confirmed that the Greater Irbid Municipality is working on implementing various tenders for the different areas under its jurisdiction, and that the implementation of maintenance and paving works in the Greater Irbid Municipality is carried out based on a specific priority schedule and according to the actual field needs of each area.

Al-Tal called on citizens and residents to come to the Greater Irbid Municipality and submit official requests regarding these streets to the competent departments at the Greater Irbid Municipality, specifically the Engineering Projects Department at the Greater Irbid Municipality, so that technical teams can conduct the necessary studies and assess their needs to include them in the upcoming paving and maintenance plans of the Greater Irbid Municipality.
