"The Municipality" begins procedures to qualify health prevention laboratories for accreditation

The Greater Amman Municipality, through the Health and Professional Control Department, has begun implementing the necessary procedures to qualify health prevention laboratories for accreditation in accordance with the international standard ISO 15189, and to apply its requirements to the procedures followed in the laboratories, in a way that enhances the quality of laboratory services and the accuracy and reliability of test results, as part of the department's plan to develop and modernize all its operations.

In this context, a training course titled "General Requirements for Medical Laboratories according to ISO 15189" was launched today, in cooperation with the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization and under the supervision of the Municipality's Training Center, and is being held over four days at the Health and Professional Control Department.

This step comes within the department's efforts to develop institutional performance, raise the efficiency of its staff, and consolidate quality practices and continuous improvement, in preparation for completing the accreditation requirements.

The department has prepared a proposed roadmap for qualifying medical laboratories, starting with forming the work team, defining responsibilities and the scope of tests targeted for accreditation, qualifying staff, and assessing the gap between the current situation and the standard's requirements, then preparing an implementation plan that defines procedures, resources, responsibilities, and target dates.

The roadmap includes documenting the quality system, standardizing pre-examination, examination, and post-examination procedures, controlling documents and records, and risk management, in addition to evaluating staff competence, qualifying and calibrating equipment, and verifying examination methods.

It also includes applying procedures, implementing internal quality control and external quality assessment programs, documenting results, conducting internal audits, management reviews, and addressing non-conformities, leading to submitting the accreditation application to the competent authority, completing the assessment, and addressing observations, in preparation for obtaining accreditation within the scope of the targeted tests.
